A Trio Of Perfect Little Hearts - Crochet- a -Long with Me ( CAL )

A Trio of
Perfect Little Love Hearts

Spend a little time with me and lets make some hearts together

Materials
Crochet hook 4.5mm (US size: 7); Scissors & yarn needle
(I have made these hearts with various sized hooks which can alter the size of your desired heart. This can also be applied to the yarn, using a finer yarn and smaller hook for really tiny hearts – keeping all th design beauty in a little heart of cute sweetness!)

Yarn
Double Knit Yarn (UK) (Light Worsted Weight Yarn (US)
Note: I used 100 % Cotton Yarn my favourites are Sindar and Wendy Supreme

I have tried to write all my patterns to be as inclusive as I can.
I try to include all UK and US variations, including stitch, yarn & hook terminology.

These three hearts are a great project. I have designed them using the fabulous beautiful butterfly stitch, which gives a beautiful, yet simple embellishment and definition.  I have designed the edging for these little hearts to make them easily, compatible for sewing them onto other items or sewing together to make various decorations. I also have a second edging for a more decorative finish.

My little hearts are easy & quick to make; and great for using up your ‘odds and ends’ of scrap yarn. They are hugely versatile and can be used as basic motifs adding detail to a project.
I will also be using this basic pattern to make many wonderful & beautiful projects, for all seasons and events. So stay in touch.

How to crochet the Butterfly Stitch (BFS)

The Butterfly Stitch (BFS) is the main stitch I have chosen to use for this Gorgeous Heart Design. To make the first Butterfly stitch (BFS),

Hook into next stitch; pull up loop, ch 1 through the loop you have pulled up (2 loops on hook). Hook into next Stitch, pull up loop (3 loops on hook); Next make a Tr.(Treble UK) or Dc. (Double Crochet US) by yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over pull through 2 loops. Last step Ch1. This completes the BFS.

**Important to Ch 1 at the end of every BFS or you will decrease your work; Each ch 1 st counts as a stitch** Unless otherwise directed by the pattern.

How to Increase the Butterfly Stitch (IBFS)

Make first full BFS in 1st Stitch (as instructed in pattern) to increase using BFS the next BFS starts in same stitch as follows: Hook through same stitch (where we have just made our full BFS) pull yarn through (2 loops on hook), yarn over, Ch 1 through 1st loop. Hook into next stitch and pull up loop (3 loops on hook); Next make a Tr.(Treble UK) or Dc. (Double Crochet US) by yarn over, pull through 2 loops, yarn over pull through 2 loops. Last step Ch1. This completes the IBFS.

How to make the Small Heart

Small Heart:     1 ½ Inches or 3 ½ cm

Round 1(Small Heart)

Using 4.5mm crochet hook (US size: 7)
start by making an Adjustable ring

To finish fasten off yarn and sew in ends, if you are making the Medium Heart continue with Round 2.

How to make the Medium Heart

Medium Heart:     2 Inches or 5 cm

Round 2 (Medium Heart)

3 Tr or (dc. Double Crochet (US) into the 3 ch sp; Into the next stitch work full BFS (see instructions above); In the same stitch start the 1st part of the IBFS, finishing the IBFS in the next stitch (see instructions above). In the same stitch complete 1 BFS. In next stitch complete 1 BFS. Work 1BFS over 2 stitches x3 (this techniques is same as the IBFS (other than you do not work a full bfs into same stitch)) Do not ch 1 after the 3rd BFS. Working in the same stitch you have ended your last BFS, work 1 tr. Treble or (dc. Double Crochet (US) & start the 1st part of BFS; Finish 2nd part of BFS in next St. Work 1BFS over 2 stitches x2. In next stitch make one full BFS; Into the next stitch work full BFS (see instructions above); In the same stitch start the 1st part of the IBFS, finishing the IBFS in the next stitch (see instructions above). In the same stitch complete 1 BFS. To finish  work 3 Tr or (dc. Double Crochet (US) into the 3 Ch sp & 1 Slp St into the middle Sp.

How to make the Large Heart

How to Crochet the Crab Stitch
(Reverse Single Crochet Stitch)

Optional Round 4:
I have designed these hearts with a pretty Crab stitch edging for making the hearts into gorgeous decorations.
For the final round attach the yarn to the middle space in the heart and complete a row of crab stitch to end.

You can use a variety of yarns and colours to make your own Hearts to suit your colour scheme. In this heart I have used a sparkly yarn and made it using a chain stitch embelishment
